My husband and I could not believe adoption came to us. We wanted to have a larger family and started our adoption September, 2002. We all learned what the meaning of patience really meant. Many prayers were answered during this time of our lives and I personally felt God’s presence more then I ever did. I can say, without a doubt, adoption truly is a gift from God. Several of our friends knew we were trying for a third child. My friend told me about a hosting program. Through this program, a group of orphans, ages 4 to 14, come to America. We can host an orphan in our home for a 5 week visit. They are taught Christianity, English, the American culture and a bonus, a chance at finding a forever family. We fell in love with this program and the thought of adoption was in our hearts. Our problem was finances. I was told that if it is in your heart to adopt, the money will be there. I decided to take a leap of faith and trust in God that He will give us a joyful and exciting experience in adopting, just as my pregnancies were. With the help of friends and family, we put together fundraising events. As our journey continued, we met and became friends with many people wanting to learn about and be adoptive parents too. The support and help was wonderful. Our prayers were being answered. The blessings, such as the Show Hope grant, are so much appreciated. I have never experienced the presence of God so much until I got involved with our adoption. Adopting a child has been one of the most difficult and most patient things I have ever been through. On the other hand, it’s been the most amazing, rewarding, journey I have ever experienced and the best is yet to come. On July 12th, 2004 Tereza Maria Lord, age 12, became an American. She has been part of family since April, 2003 and now she is living with her forever family. My hope is that others will open the door to the blessings that God has waiting for them through helping or adopting a child. remember through the eyes of the Lord anything is possible!
Tereza is from Latvia. As a family we are all challenged with Tereza’s culture and Tereza is challenged as she lives with her new American family. Everyone becomes more creative and we come up with ideas that work in certain situations. We become a team. We also realize the simplest things in our lives that we take for granted is a whole new world for a child that never had a chance to experience it, or even know about it. You become more thankful for the simplest things and you feel blessed with what you have. We are thankful that adoption became a part of our lives.
